Email & Messaging

What the WhatsApp connector can do

WhatsApp's business platform lets companies message customers at scale using approved templates, webhooks, and a verified business profile. In type.com, a support or marketing Space can ask Claude to draft a new template, check what templates already exist, or pull a business profile's details, keeping template approvals and messaging decisions visible to the whole team.

One connection, many Spaces

Connect WhatsApp once, then decide which Spaces can use it in threads, skills, automations, and coding work.

What teams do with WhatsApp in type.com

Keep message templates organized

Have the agent list every approved template so the team knows what is available before launching a new outbound message.

Try asking
Show me all our WhatsApp message templates and which ones are approved for marketing use.

Retire an unused template

Remove a template that is outdated or no longer compliant with WhatsApp's rules, freeing the name for a new version.

Try asking
Delete the WhatsApp template named holiday_promo_2024, we're replacing it for this year.

Check business profile details before a campaign

Confirm the business description, address, and contact info tied to a WhatsApp number are current before a big send.

Try asking
Pull our WhatsApp business profile and confirm the website and address are still correct.

Representative actions

  • Create message template

Drafts a new WhatsApp message template for marketing or utility messages, which WhatsApp must approve before use.

  • Delete message template

Removes a message template by name from the WhatsApp Business account, including every language version of it.

  • Get business profile

Retrieves the business details tied to a WhatsApp number, including description, address, and contact information.

  • Get media info

Returns metadata and a short-lived download link for a piece of media uploaded to WhatsApp.

  • Get message templates

Lists every message template on the WhatsApp Business account, needed for messages sent outside the 24-hour reply window.

Representative triggers

  • Message Status Updated

Triggers when a WhatsApp message status changes. IMPORTANT LIMITATION: WhatsApp Cloud API does not provide a native polling endpoint for message status. Status updates are ONLY delivered via webhooks in real-time. This trigger cannot directly poll the WhatsApp API for status updates. This trigger will return empty results as WhatsApp does not support this operation. To track message status updates, you must: 1. Set up a webhook endpoint to receive status notifications from WhatsApp 2. Store the webhook data in your own database 3. Use a different mechanism to query your stored webhook data For more information, see: - https://developers.facebook.com/docs/whatsapp/cloud-api/webhooks

FAQ

Questions people ask before connecting WhatsApp

Can Claude manage WhatsApp templates from type.com?

Yes. With a WhatsApp connection shared to a Space, ask Claude in a thread to list, create, or delete message templates, and the whole team sees the same results.

How does type.com authenticate with WhatsApp Business?

WhatsApp supports OAuth sign-in or an API key, depending on how the account is set up. An admin configures it once on the connection and chooses which Spaces can use it.

Who on the team can send WhatsApp messages through the agent?

Only members of a Space that the WhatsApp connection has been shared with can ask the agent to act on it, so template and messaging access stays limited to the right team.

Is this the same as a WhatsApp MCP server?

Not exactly. type.com uses connectors and connections to give selected Spaces access to approved app tools and data. Some connectors use hosted MCP, while others use OAuth, API keys, service accounts, or custom APIs.
